Become a volunteer

AFRIL offers a range of volunteering opportunities. Volunteers can work directly with our clients at our ESOL projects, the Crèche and the Rainbow Club, gain experience in our office, help with fundraising, and organise community events.

AFRIL depends on volunteers' support to deliver all its projects. Volunteering can be a great opportunity to gain work experience, meet like-minded people and make a difference in your local community.

If you are thinking of volunteering, do not hesitate to get in touch with us to see how your skills could be of help to our mission.  We are a very dynamic team, always happy to welcome dedicated people motivated to make a difference!

All volunteers will receive an induction and training. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Occasionally one has the satisfaction of meeting the people for whom one is working and this make the effort seem worthwhile - there are some heart-rending and also some heartening stories out there!

In our volunteers' words…

On retirement I did not, at first, consider volunteering…As time went on I realised that, having been a teacher all my life, I had been working with a sense of purpose and 'public service' and that retirement left a hole in this part of my identity. I wanted to find something different from teaching but had always had a connection with refugees and speakers of other languages.” `

- Maggie, Administrative Assistant

I have gained knowledge of working in a small organisation with limited resources and also learned some new financial skills. I would recommend the role to a person who already has some accounting knowledge but who is seeking to return to work after a career break.”

- Tina, Financial Assistant

I had been looking for such a long time for an opportunity to help out with the refugee crisis, but couldn`t commit to 40 hours a week as I already had a full-time job! Giving my time to AFRIL has turned out to be so rewarding as I know that every single penny we raise during events is spent entirely on our services to the local community. I`ve also met some incredible, committed and selfless people who also want to try to make the world a bit brighter!
